Dr. Ying-Ho Joanna H. holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Collaborative Piano from the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), where she also earned her Artist Diploma in Collaborative Piano and a Master’s Degree with a double major in Horn and Collaborative Piano Performance. Currently, she serves as both an Artistic Staff Pianist and the Collaborative Piano Administrator at CIM.
A native of Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Joanna began her musical journey at age five on the piano and added the French horn at nine. Over the years, she has performed extensively as a horn player and collaborative pianist in recitals, orchestral concerts, chamber music performances, New Music Ensemble events, and outreach performances across the greater Cleveland community. She has collaborated with members of the Emerson String Quartet, the St. Petersburg String Quartet, The Cleveland Orchestra, the Akron Symphony Orchestra, and the Canton Symphony Orchestra. Her artistry has been recognized with numerous awards, including Academic Honors, two Cleveland Heights Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon Rosa Lobe Awards for “the highest level of artistic achievement in collaborative piano,” and First Prize in the 2023 CIM 29th Annual Darius Milhaud Performance Prize Concert. She also had the distinct honor of performing in a masterclass with Michael Tilson Thomas in 2022.
As an educator, Dr. Joanna holds a Piano Pedagogy Certificate from CIM and has served as chamber music assistant for CIM’s Preparatory Academy, mentoring and performing with the next generation of classical musicians. Her goal is to share her passion for music in every form of collaboration, inspiring students of all levels. With Dr. Joanna, lessons are not only insightful and rigorous but also an engaging and thoroughly enjoyable experience.
